Booking Edit Surcharges Overview
This article is only intended as a general overview. For comprehensive information, consult the Ancillary Surcharges document available through your KAE, and accessible on our website here.
Depending on the type of booking you have, there may be fees for making changes that alter the key attributes of your booking. These changes can result in unutilised capacity.
Note that adding new equipment to your booking is always free and will not incur any booking change fees.
If you have a flexible, standard or last minute booking
You can change your freight and service details for free more than 24 hours before the service cut off. However, if you make changes within 24 hours of the service cut off, it may incur a surcharge, depending on whether the changes alter the key attributes of your booking.
If you have a book and pay booking
you can change your freight and service details at any time before the service cut off, but it may also incur a surcharge. The surcharge applies if your changes alter the key attributes of the booking.
book and pay bookings are also referred to as base committed bookings.
Key Attributes of a booking include, but are not limited to:
Changing the origin or destination of your freight
Changing your freights rail service
Changing your equipment between a wagon and container
Removing equipment from your booking (aka a partial cancellation)
Downgrading your equipment from confirmed to waitlisted
Booking edit surcharges won't apply in certain cases, such as if the change is due to a KiwiRail issue like a cancelled train, a late running train missing an onforwarding connection etc.
